I was quizzing Madeline on her signs/identifying skills, and towards the end I asked how she says “night night”, expecting her to do her “sleepy” sign. SHe puckered her lips and kissed me on the cheek. My kid associates “night night” with cheek kisses. HOW SWEET IS THAT? (For clarification, I immediately asked her how she say she’s tired and she did the correct sign.)
My child is now walking like she’s done it her whole life, running even most of the time. And yeah, that’s awesome, but It’s definitely not something I’m, like, SUPER proud of. The things that make me ridiculously proud are so silly, so small.
The other day, Madeline was walking into the bathroom and I told her “NO!” She stopped in her track and walked BACKWARDS two steps then ran off. My 14 month old can walk BACKWARDS.
When I’m crouching in the kitchen, Madeline comes up behind me, hugs my waist and kisses my cheek.
Yesterday I was sitting in bed and Madeline walked into my room and CLIMBED ONTO MY BED BY HERSELF.
When I ask for kisses, she closes her mouth and makes kissy noises, then will plant one on my cheek.
If she picks up something she’s not supposed to have, and I ask her to put it back, SHE WILL PUT IT BACK IN ITS EXACT PLACE.
I just find it amusing that these things, to some, are huge milestones, whereas to others they’re just another thing their baby can do. I guess it’s getting to the point where I realize the little things are life’s greatest gift.
Madeline is kind of walking now. I won’t say ‘officially’ walking. But, you know, she’s definitely trying.
Here’s a few shots from Madeline’s first birthday party, held December 15th, 2011.
Key points:
- The tutu was a gift from my absolutely amazing tumblrbuddy, thank you, A MILLION TIMES.
- The fruit kabobs were a hit, and really brought the whole rainbow theme together. (thank you Pinterest, you are so full of awesome ideas)
- Madeline decided to prove to everyone that we aren’t lying when we say “she can walk, she just doesn’t want to.” by walking in front of absolutely everyone, at the end of the party. (literally, she walked toward her LAST present.)
- Everyone had a blast. There were 5 babies there in total (Michael [11.5 months], Brian [5 months], Maya [12.5 months], Abigail [3 months] and Madeline [obviously, 12 months]) so even the little ones had someone to hang out with.
I am having a huge internal debate on whether to post pictures, on one hand it’s hilarious (to me), on the other hand I do not need to be a STFUParent.

HOW DID I GET SUCH A CUTE KID?

Sometimes I can not get over how ridiculously cute she is. Also, that is a 3-6 month outfit. Walmart, what the crap?
